Nope. You lose that capability when you change the radio. As for the A/C controls, they will still be there. lol. And theres a small improvement on the overall sound. It gets a little louder without distorting but nothing crazy. The XM sounds about the same as well. We did some rear speakers on one as well as a radio and the sound was a bit louder in the back. Id recommend if you are going to change the radio for better sound, start with the speakers and a 4 channel amp. Only change the radio for more features you may want.

The change in sound is not significant enough to pay that much for the kit, radio, and install.

You can keep those settings by buying another module. The actual model number escapes me. I think its like $20 or so.

you totally answered my question. I know allot of times the head unit can make a big difference in an old car sound quality wise, but didn't know about newer cars.

I may have missed it in an earlier post, but were you able to still use the factory antenna? I would like to use a unit and still use the XM radio. Didnt want to put the silly magnet antenna next to the factory antenna LOL.

You will retain the AM/FM antenna, but I don't think it keeps the XM antenna.

No it does not retain factory xm antenna. You just need a european antenna adapter for the fm/am.

My local installer was able to modify the factory xm antennae to work with my Kenwoods xm adapter. I was so pleased. I don't know what he did tho

If you're totally willing to chuck OnStar, that looks like the way to go. It doesn't have the full interface box that retains the full functionality.

You have to trim the plastic around the factory xm antenna plug. Its not too difficult to do.

sorry, english is my second language.
On the original stereo system we have the "seek" button, "info", "fav", "Tone" ext…
When you buy the METRA adapter you don´t need all this, because it is part of the original stereo system. but what about the "CONFIG" button?
Where do you access to the configuration of your vehicle once you install your metra adapter with your new headunit?

From what I understand, to access those options, you will need to buy this module.

Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone that has done this, so I'm not 100% if that is true.

This kit is also offered on ebay for $97.00 free shipping. You just have to look. This kit don't support on star which isn't worth it anyway (use your cell phone )
