If there is one or two ongoing concerns regarding the Sonic, it is the loss of antifreeze and water pump issues. Whether or not they are related is somewhat of a mystery indeed. At around 11,000 miles, I noticed my coolant level was a little low. The dealer said it was a clamp that was not fastened correctly from the factory. The dealer topped the coolant off, and now at 13,500 miles, coolant level has remained normal. I have been keeping a close eye on it though. Plan to continue monitoring it carefully. :blankface:

Hi Guys - New to the forum as a member but have used the forum for info for a couple years. I had a 2012 LT turbo that was t-boned about 8 months after purchased so I upgraded to the 2013 RS after ins. paid off the wrecked one.
I'm a high mileage driver (hit 46K) and love my sonic but about a couple months ago it over heated something bad. Pulled into a gas station and I had no fluid in the radiator. After waiting about 30 min for it to cool enough to open the res. I filled with water and took to the dealer next day. They spent 2 days working on it and in the end told me (not to confidently) that they think it was the thermostat. Since then it still smelled like coolant and I also got a letter from GM saying the cooling system has a problem and to bring it in. Took it back to dealer last week and they told me that my radiator is bad and no longer covered under warranty. WTF? My feeling is that whatever caused the leak in the first place caused the car to overheat and weaken my radiator which now failed. Anyone else get this far with the problem?
