Just my experience:
During an oil change i decided to change out the Gear oil too, i defiantly like the feeling much better w/ a full synthetic haha.
So far I have been unable to replicate the 1-2 grinding that i had exp. a few times.
Also the shifter seems to move into 2nd/Rev much easier now although 1st still seems a bit "stiff" it may just be me not used to driving a manual transmission car.

Just back a few pages......
I had the shifter alignment done today. The mechanic did say it was out of alignment, but it stills grinds in second if I shift at a high rpm. Although I admit it does shift a little better now, especially into reverse and 5th/6th gear. I will install the shifter bushings tomorrow and then if that doesn't fix it I will change the fluid to redline MT90.

The bushings will have zero effect on the tranny grind. MT90 will though
I asked the service manager if we could try changing to redline transmission fluid and he said, "Whatever it takes to get it right."

took my car in today to have the 1-2 grind sorted out. they're calling GM tomorrow to see if theres a solution they know about as well as ordering a new trans after they adjust the cables. I told them I didn't want a transmission with chewed a chewed up syncro thats just going to give me problems down the line.

Does anyone know if the MR5 going in the rs has the same issue?
It's the same transmission, just different gearing.

my guess however a little more 1-2 heavy throttle and such shifting has gone into testing and the linkage has a new alignment point. Remember there is a TSB on it now posted somewhere (earlier in this thread I think?) about the adjustment so take it with that as referance!
I had the TSB performed and it didn't help at all. Actually it caused another issue which I have to get fixed :/
Now when I shift into second gear, no matter what rpm or how hard, it makes a noise that sounds like two plastic spoons tapping.

There is a DIY somewhere I do believe you can just double check to make sure the GM Certified Tech that worked on your car did it correctly, perhaps they didn't. You didn't have it done on a Friday did you?!?

Took my TSB about shift linkage i printed off to dealer and they told me it has expired and is no longer performed, i didn't think these expired? Anyways service manager and me went at it about that and the grinding between first and second to no avail. According to them there is nothing wrong with the car. General manager got involved and phone call was placed to GM tech support and instead of adjusting linkage and changing fluid they ordered a new transmission. Good part i guess is i get one that's not all chewed up but still doesn't fix the 1-2 grind. So per corporate GM on the phone you should receive a new transmission if it grinds...now just gotta buy some redline fluid so i don't kill syncros on this one like the last one.
