shift grind between 1 and 2 SOLVED

Took it to the dealership, had the tune left on it. put it on cruise control when i parked it... they said they could not reproduce it. I know a good bit of people at the service department and the transmission guy said i could take him in the car to try to reproduce it... as soon as i pulled out onto the road it reproduced on queue. right at 5.5K rpm it grinded.

we went back and they had a bulletin for it they had to order a whole new transmission from Germany, arrive within a week and VWALA FIXED :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

ill try to get the bulletin for y'all and see if i cant help anyone else out.

I think I'll be getting a new trans at about 80K mi

I'd like to see the bulletin number. I couldn't get mine to reproduce it and they refuse to do anything about it.

Glad you got it fixed, keep us updated if the grind comes back after a few thousand miles. Mine was fine for the first 1k mi, but the last 800 it's been doing it if I push it hard in 1st gear. Thinking about doing the gear oil swap then waiting until it gets worse to have it replaced.

they called a tech and talked to them i tried getting a bulletin number but they were slammed today so i know two people there that are going to get it researched for me.. they did say the transmission they put in mine has a slight difference, but i have NO idea what it would be lmao.

oh you'll notice it. if you hold the gas to the floor and then let off to shift at 5.5K rpm it will grind but go into 2nd. its a factory flaw and from what my dealership told me "they dont want a lot of people knowing about it" sooooo that being said ill make sure to get the bulletin so you guys can get it replaced! :banana:

Exactly. When trying to do a fast 1-2 shift above 5,500 RPM the trans will often grind going into gear. If the clutch is held in longer, slowing down the shift the issue will go away.

Putting in a more viscous fluid usually remedies the problem but has almost been a DIY fix (using Redline MT90 75w-90 fluid).

I've finally experienced this "problem", but I think (FOR ME) it was self-induced: I've been playing with my seat a lot to find the most comfortable position - not sure I'll ever find it - but I did notice I got a horrible grind between 1&2 a few days ago. I'm not sure if it is coincidence, but I did have my seat all the way back and it ended up being a stretch to get the pedal completely to the floor.

I didn't have any problems until I had to pull out into heavy traffic and accelerate harder than I normally do. I'm wondering if - during acceleration - I was pushed a wee bit farther back into the seat and I didn't disengage the clutch enough before the gear change?

I had this occur twice more on my commute - until I moved my seat forward a bit and consciously thought to fully push the clutch to the floor at each shift.

I'm wondering if some of the problem is a clutch adjustment issue as well? Not discounting any of the other, very well documented, problems all the others have had - I'm hoping my grind was purely "operator error".

Mine has gotten so bad it will grind part throttle shifting as early as 2500 rpm. Ridiculous.

I tested over and over again, My tranny doesn't grind.....I haz odd ball sonic.:blankface: now if i could get a scangauge 2 to work

My transmission would grind with a high rpm 1-2 shift when I first got the car.

I changed the fluid to Redline 75w90 - no change
I did the TSB adjustment procedure - slightly improved
Finally added an additional 1/3 quart of lucas snot oil and it will not grind at all anymore. I don't shift up there very often but its smooth now

I would assume with most manual trans, the excess will find its ways through the vent
