Actually, it isn't, 85.00 is Whole. 84 and 86 are even.

Bumping this thread.
I went to the local Chevy dealership here in Waxa armed with info from this thread and an RS VIN. Was completely unable to talk them into swapping in RS steering program. That is fair, honestly, they are certified service dept and I understand they don't want to do anything without permission from Chevy.
BUT
A) they said it was a safety issue. They should not have said that to me. It is clearly NOT a safety issue, that's nonsense. The RS has exactly the same parts, and they are selling the RS with this calibration. If it's unsafe then the first guy to wreck an RS gets to sue them for the steering. But it's safe. Stupid to tell me something patently untrue when a simple "we like the idea but can't do it because we're certified" would have sufficed.
B) Chevy should permit this as an option so Certified Dealers can do it for us. We're willing to pay any reasonable price for the service, which consists of about 5 minutes of their time and zero materials. Win win win.
So, anyone want to PM me with the name of a service tech anywhere within 4 hours drive of me here in Waxa, or back near Lancaster PA who will do this off the books and more importantly
C) can we put some pressure on Chevy to make this a legit option so we don't have to try social engineering it?

I was shot down at my local chevy dealership for the same reasons. Seems to be the general response. The guy was new though.
I am going back tomorrow to get the brake lamp recall service done and I will talk to the more lenient service tech about it. If he agrees, I will post it up for anyone in North Texas. I won't list the dealership publicly but if they will, PM me and I'll give you the name.

If you do not have a long standing relationship with a hevy service department than I suggest looking for one that sells a lot of Corvettes or Camaros. My guess is they will be more oriented to such a change.
I have no problem with my VIN being used but it has been used for this flash several times already. Cars.com has vins in its ads if one is being cautious.
As for safety: I can not help but feel the RS calibration is the safer of the two. There is an assurance that firmer steering provides when traveling at highway speeds that one gets with the RS calibration and is lacking in the rest.
And I will repeat what I have said several times including in my first post reviewing the RS: Chevy should make this calibration available to any Sonic driver desiring it. It takes about as long to do it as it takes to set the TPMS sensors. We are talking twelve minutes to move the Sonic into the service bay, six minutes to set up and complete the flash and twelve minutes to move the car from the service bay to the parking lot.

I had posted this info somewhere else, but now can't seem to locate it. Many independent garages are able to do this flash, and may be more approachable about it. Any shop that has pass thru programming capabilities can complete it. Only problem is we have to "rent" the software from GM for $60, so it may cost a little more. I did mine when we had purchased the software to do a bcm programming for a customer, so I did my flash for free. If anyone is in the CT area and wants it done, let me know.

I still have no idea where I can get this done. Every chevy dealership I've approached, can't get the time of day on the idea of doing this. I'm thinking of driving to Connecticut to get ss2000slp to do it... might be worth the drive!

A Little Disappointed...
Had mine flashed today and was present when it was done.... I can tell no difference whatsoever in steering effort & feel. The only thing I can think is was was downloaded in the tech equipment, but never made it to the car??? It was free though...
Next trip in, will have it re-checked...
