Siri won't tell you you have a new text without being asked. Im not sure if you hear the text tone when listening to Bluetooth or usb audio through the speakers. If you hear (through your phone itself) your text tone, you can press and hold the call button on the steering wheel till you hear the chime come through the speakers. Say "read new text" and Siri will read it to you. She will ask you if you want to reply, say "yes" and she will ask "what would you like the message to say?" After saying your text Siri will read it back for confirmation and ask if you would like to send it or redo it.

Thanks. My Windows phone would actually alert through the mylink and the car speakers that "you have an incoming text from blank. Do you want hear it". I didn't know if the iPhone would do the same with the eyes-free.

It may, if your listening to the Bluetooth or are plugged in. I know it doesnt alert you when listening to the radio. I hardly ever listen to the Bluetooth and only plug in if Im using waze or imap and that's not too often.

No word yet--I imagine it'll be soon, as GM has been a leader in iOS integration--but for those owning an iPhone, here's a video from Volvo demonstrating what we'll have to look forward to:

Normally true and probably true in this case. It does not look, to me at least, to be a simple flash.

If it is a simple flash to update I have no doubt some among us will do it but I also see it as similar to the RS steering algorithm update: a few dealers will and most will not.

But my question: if this is important what is the problem with trading in for the 2015?

Kart, the only issue I can see is the contract between GM and EnGIS corporation (the Korean company that makes BringGo); I don't know the particulars, but my friends tell me there's a snag in bringing Apple Maps to MyLink because of GM wanting to use the data from BringGo to improve the OnStar system--which, to be perfectly honest, could be bull****. I love my friends who work for Apple, but I'm under no delusion that they love their jobs more than they love me--which means I realize that sometimes I get insider knowledge, and sometimes I get the Approved Company Line.

Here's what I know: CarPlay (as "iOS in the car" is now known by) is, for all practical purposes (save two elements), Siri Eyes-Free; what we won't be able to access is having maps and non-GM approved apps. The 7.1 software should--I don't know for certain, but I've seen the beta--have the capability, via a slider switch in the general settings area, for turning on a "mirror" of the screen, much like what iOS does with their AirPlay system. If that's the case, then it'll take whatever mapping application that's on the screen of the iPhone and show it on the MyLink screen--which would be perfect. But I'm not holding my breath, because of the possibility of GM running up against whatever deal they signed with EnGIS. My friends also tell me that the software needed to run CarPlay was included in the last upgrade--they just haven't accessed it yet.

As far as the software updates for existing owners, I'll send a note to a family member who used to have some pull at GM, and ask him to look into it; he's a grumpy old guy, and that's the best way to get things done sometimes.

That all sounds great, I never understood why GM did not capitalize on upgrades. Seems like it could be a money maker for everyone.
Relating to EnGis, they are not doing any favors. The app works, but not well. Also they have not provided any updates as promised in the app.
MyLink also has some issues and as we speak my. RS is at the dealers and everyone is trying to work out the Bluetooth connection problem that has existed since purchase in October. I have a new Sonic loaner and it has the same issue. They are trying very hard but do not have a solution. Maybe they are stalling to add your system to remedy the problem. Wouldn't that be nice.
Keep us posted! Color me enthused!

GM installed replacement MyLink radio, I had my IPhone 5 replaced by Apple. All of the latest upgrades to MyLink and Iphone. No change! Bluetooth connects, after the normal lag from starting the car, then repeatedly disconnects and connects every few seconds, about 15.
If I plug in the USB cord it connects and stays connected. If I connect manually through the IPhone or MyLink it will stay connected.
I found reference that Bluetooth was controlled in the Onstar box but GM says no, all Bluetooth is handled by MyLink.
I just want it to work like my vehicles I replaced, (Silverado) and my wife's new Buick Encore.

This may be a dumb question but did you call infotainment support? If so what did they say? I could swear I've read the blue tooth goes through onstar. They must be linked since there is only 1 microphone in the dome light pod. I know it looks like there's 2 but I've had the dome lights out and the other mic grill is a dummy grill.

It'd be awesome to see if one of us could find an up-to-date service manual for the Infotainment/My Link system; as for now, I can't imagine the BT system has anything to do with OnStar--it just doesn't make any sense that it would.

Kart, I'm stumped as well. Does it kick you off at regular intervals? My guess would be that you've set the phone to lockout at a certain time, and it cuts the signal to MyLink. Do you have any restrictions or accessibility controls turned on?

The GM customer service reps on here have been really great to deal with; I'll ask one of them if we can get an expert on MyLink to spend some time with us. Maybe a Reddit AMA?

Hi all, new to the forum, lurking for a while. I have a question on USB capacity. I've scoured the thread (I actually read 90% of it even) for an answer and found several answers from 2500 songs to over 10,000 songs (and those not indexed would be accessible by going through the album search.)

To further clarify before buying a high capacity USB flash drive, I contacted MyLink this morning and chatted with them. They told me I would get "at least 10,000 songs."

So I go out and buy a 128gb USB flash drive (PNY) and load it up with my collection, plug it in and boom, only 2500 songs, no access to the rest of the drive through any option (album, artist, etc.)

I then chatted with MyLink again and was told that 2500 was the limit. Nice to know they are on top their game...

My question, my car is a 2013 Sonic RS, bought new last Saturday, that was never updated with last year's MyLink update. Does the update allow access to 10,000 indexed songs and all the drive through the album feature or did I just spend extra money on a large drive when I could have saved and bought 4 or 5 16gb for less?

I feel your pain. We apparently have a crippled version of MyLink in the Sonic. I can only access a tiny fraction of my entire music library through Mylink, and I'm not about to juggle a handfull of different USB thumb drives while on the road.

I'm wondering if mounting some other portable USB device, e.g., a more sophisticated mp3 player with its own screen, navigation, and much higher storage limits, might be a solution. An AUX source would work, but unfortunately I'm already utilizing the AUX jack for something else.

I need more than 2500 songs. This just doesn't cut it.

Dave, in the audio mode, you have to scroll down the source menu and find "bluetooth"; with that, it'll mirror anything coming from your phone.

Pair the phone like you normally would to make calls, then once you see the BT symbol on MyLink, go to Audio, then to Source, then to Bluetooth. Once you're there, go to your phone and launch the app you want to hear. It'll come through the car's speakers. Also, you might want to play with the equalizer a little bit--it'll make a big difference. Have fun.

Ohh wait now I know what you mean by source! Well you see I have paired it before already just like I did with my Galaxy s3 but when I pair my iphone the source option for BT isn't clickable but the BT icon does light up on the top right corner. It's strange. Do you get what I'm trying to say? If it keeps happening like this I'll try I make a video.

And yeah playing with the equalizer does make a huge difference! I found that out on the first day with the Sonic haha
