The day I go mine I got it up to 110 then it start to wiggle around to much so bitched out and slowed down. Haha

I wonder if a basic undertray would help prevent the car from wriggling around so much? Nothing fancy, just a straight sheet of ABS or something.

The first ~half of the first year (2012) of the Sonic production included an engine pan. I suspect it was discontinued out of fear that engine oil could gather on it causing a fire hazard. Sonics did run better at high speeds with it.

Indeed. The first year Sonics had an under cover for the engine compartment. You may still be able to find one here and there. I picked up one all dusty from a dealer using searches on the internet but it cost about $100.
The Buick Encore has one still I think, but not as large as the Sonic's was.

Ah, well that's neat. And as a Fiero owner, I can understand GM's fear of engine fires. =P

I’m ordering an undertray to see if it fits. GM part# 42452292. States it fits for Trax/Encore. I never took my Sonic in for an oil change. Must have been removed when brought in for one of the many other warranty repairs.

I’m not really interested in Sonic top speed. More curious if the remove undertray was the culprit for never achieving 40mpg on highway. Car was primarily a highway commuter and outside the first few hundred miles mpg’s dropped to mid-upper 30’s. I recall it going back to the dealer for something soon after purchase.

At 80'000+ miles --- I'll do my 100'000 mile service very soon --- having no idea how hard it was driven before I bought it ---- I had it up to 80 once --

But its still like pushing a brick through molasses -- LOL

Never tried to go the max speed

Mine likes to creep up to 80 if I am not paying attention and just following traffic on highway.
