Warranty covered suspension issue

I just started to notice this clunking noise a few days ago also. I have 6500 miles on it. It is a rather minor noise at this point, but I will definantly check it out. Does anyone know it the car is safe to drive in this condition? Can't make it to the dealer for another week or so. Thanks.

Have the dealer check out the driver side front springs. My strut assembly had to be replaced. It should be a recall. At least a bulliten. I lowered my suspension runs and sounds great now

I just heard a popping sound coming from the passenger side front of my sonic today with 9,800 miles on it at low speeds between 10-25 MPH. I hear it when i'm driving straight or turning to the right. Has anyone else experienced this issue yet.

The sounds I am getting could go either way. I noticed it doesn't start doing it until I get off of the interstate and start driving at a slower speed. I called the dealer and they told they wouldn't be able to look at it until next friday.

I did and I have the same model sonic as you but this didn't happen until after I drove through a bad bad storm in San Antonio, when it rains it pours and we do not have good drain systems. The service center told me it was something to do with the struts having some mud or dirt caught in the struts not too sure on how legit that reasoning is but they got it fixed no less so im not too worried as its covered.

Dropped my car off at the dealer on Thursday for the "clunking" noise coming from left and right sides of the front end. Got the car back later in the afternoon and fixed the drivers side only which was the stability bar end link that got replaced. The car still made the noise on the passenger side and the service advisor went on a test drive around the block and heard the noise but not as loud as the drivers side. It was the same noise as the drivers side but the technicians said they couldn't find anything wrong. I was told keep driving it until it gets a bit worse and they would check it again. Really???? lol
Should i go to a different dealer and see if they can figure this out? Im pretty sure its the stability bar end link as well. Any advice guys?

i have driven 15k miles on my car so far ,and my stab links are still holding up . i must have one of the few sonics that were built really well haha .

Honestly I have nothing against the sonic. I now have 19k on the clock and end links + clutch pedal assembly have been replaced. I have a rear brake problem (I think the drum is out of round) and now end links again. If they fail again I will replace them with a full metal race set.
I find the car comfortable and gets great fuel mileage and hope to have it for a while

Oh no, sorry to hear this. You could try another dealer if you'd like or just take it back in to the same dealer. At least they're familiar with the problem already. I would be glad to locate one for you in your area. Just private message me your VIN, name and current mileage.

I'm at another dealership right now as im typing this and they have fixed the passenger end link and said why the other dealer ship hadn't fixed the recall for the airbag which is in the system when they entered my VIN. All i know is i found a new home for my Sonic to get looked after of.

My clunk is fixed!
So, after my previous experience with a dealer being "unable to hear" my clunking noise, I went to another dealership when I got the recall notice for the washer hose recall. I made an appointment for the recall, and told them about the clunk, the missing exhaust heat shield bolt, and the raised trim on the right side steering wheel switches. The dealership proactively ordered sway bar links based on this forum's experiences (that's a nice touch). After doing the recall, replacing the sway bar links, and fixing the other issues, the tech noted that the clunk was still present. He called me to get my take on the problem, and I informed him that I noticed that the clunking went away under light braking. He told me this gave him an idea, and called me back about an hour later to tell me my car was fixed and ready. When I got there, he informed me that I was hearing the brake pads clunking around in the caliper, and that's why when the brakes were applied the sound went away. He applied a shim and applied some brake-quiet lubricant to the back of the pads, and my car sounds like it's new again.
I apologized to him about the incorrect sway bar link guess, and he informed me that it was probably good to swap them out anyway, as he'd done 3 other sets on Sonics. I got the feeling that he wanted new ones in there anyway.
So, kudos to Camp Chevrolet in Spokane for making this right for me. This is a real surprise as the last time I went there for a warranty problem, it took them 2 weeks to get a part. They actually listened to me as a customer, and it was a nice treat not to get treated like an idiot.
