What kind of Wax/Polish do you use?

I use Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax
Its supposed to be the best ever
All I know is my little sonic is victory red and the elements are very hard on red paint.
I have tried different waxes/polishes on my car and seems like none of them last very long.
I try to keep my car waxed every other week during the hot summer months.

Usually use Meguiars, always seemed to be the best. Have Turtle Ice wax ive used for the past 2 or 3 applications. Gives a good finish, no white residue along creases, can be used on the black plastic on the mirrors and c-pillar. Not a bad wax by any means, but will probably go back to meguiars soon purely out of loyalty

I use Meguiars Tech Wax for the exteriror and for the plastic interior and plastic components in the engine bay I use 303 Vinyl Protectant.

Do not wax it.

It is very bad to wax a modern vehicle. Over time it will remove the clear coat which is a bad thing. Just wash it.

You realize that the clear coat is going to crack,fade, scratch over time anyways?

Should you wax it right when you get home from the dealer? No, it takes a month or two for the paint to fully cure. But after that its all good.

Thats not what the guy at the auto body shop told me. Repair to my wifes 08 grandprix...waxing a car is like sanding a board. OK if you are going to repaint or if its already destroyed but not something you want to do to a new car.

I disagree with the information. How can wax in the form of liquid or a gel act like sand paper on a clean surface?

We have a couple family friends that do body work and they always tell me to wait two months before waxing to let the paint finish curing.

To each there own, I don't care how anyone else does it. Just saying the information that I have

Oh really??? Lol you should tell that to people that buy exotic cars than, see what they'll tell you.

I use Mothers FX Synwax, actually I only use Mother products.

if it wasn't something like "waxing 50 times a year is bad because of the constant pressure and rubbing during application wears the clear coat" or "waxing fresh paint is bad" or "If you're not using clean applicators waxing is bad for your clear coat" you might have some credibility.

Quite frankly I don't see how properly applying a thin protective coating is bad for the paint. Wax protects the paint/clear coat from contaminants for awhile, sounds like a good thing.


Anyhow, I've used a few different waxes and I've noticed i get the best finish with the wax I spend the most time applying . However I usually use Maguiars or Once A Year Car wax.

Actually it was the owner of a very successful auto body shop in my area.

He told me once you rub through the clear coat, your paint will begin fading at an accelerated rate. If you don't wax it the engine will wear out before your finish.

If you search the internet to answer the question "is waxing a new car bad" you will obviously get a mixed bag of responses...some will say waxing is good, some will say waxing is bad. Just remember, the American marketing machine is hard at work (not bashing the US or any American country), just saying these types of products are marketed very heavily.

There was a day when smoking cigarettes was supposedly good for you. Doctors and other various snake oil salesmen would prescribe various concoctions that had morphine, heroin, cocaine and various other drugs in them to cure all kinds of ailments back in the day. Why, money. This had a huge effect on the US population and is the reason all these drugs are now illegal.

Not saying waxing your car should be illegal but I am just trying to emphasize the point about marketing and money.

Go ahead and spend your hard earned money, time and muscle waxing and polishing your new car. At least you will be moving the economy forward.

I will choose to wash, dry and drive...economically. I have better things to do then wax my car anyway.

I'm pretty sure wax and polish for cars are not that heavily marketed in the U.S. If anything around cars is being heavily marketed it's insurance. Like I brake the bank to buy a 5$ bottle of wax that lasts me 3-4 years of protection and helps keep crap from sticking to my paint. I only wax 1 time every 6 months and it only takes a extra 30 minutes of my day. I washed a car economically once and it was my old 98 civic. Hint, the paint went way before my engine which was still going at 398k miles when I traded it in for some extra cash for my sonic. Only way waxing can be bad is what sx sonic said for good points waxing way to much or doing it wrong.
