Your own words told us that you frequently don't know what gear you are in and would like a shift indicator. If that makes you an amateur - then so be it. I didn't say that - you did.
Once again, in a vain attempt to make yourself look self important, you've failed. You shouldn't make guarantees that are so easily proven to be false.
You obviously haven't seen too many race cars.
I've literally seen thousands of race cars without one. I've never had a gear indicator in any race car I've driven either - automatic or stick.
Are you going to send me another personal message telling me I'm "just a grumpy old man that isn't happy with my own life"?
And then after that you tell me not to bother replying because you "don't give a **** what I have to say"...

You're the king of exaggeration. You can say whatever you want about my driving ability. You're just grasping for straws. My point is that there are legitimate reasons for wanting a gear indicator. Like i said, the fact that even one professional driver choses to use one proves my point.
It's not all about you. You keep telling me what i should want based on your needs. That's why i feel sorry for your wife.

Keep grasping for those straws... Google race car dash cluster. Of the pictures that have the entire dash displayed nearly every car has a gear indicator. YOU ARE THE MINORITY. GET OVER IT.

FWIW - I started building race cars when I was 18 - with my wife's older brother.
I stopped building race cars about 6 or 7 years ago, but I've been involved in my local speedway as a track official, track promotions, advertising and sponsorship sales as well as doing some of the photography for the track since 2005.
I attended the Grand Prix of Germany at the Nurburgring when I was stationed over there in the 70's (6 year Army Viet Nam era vet). I've been to road courses (Laguna Seca and Sonoma in CA and Elkhart Lake in WI), dirt tracks in 10 states, the Super Speedways of Daytona and Talledega, the short tracks of Martinsville and Bristol, the Brickyard for the inaugural Brickyard 400 and every other NASCAR track configuration (.75 mile - 2.00 track)...
Oh, and this is me on the dragstrip...
Here's the dash - feel free to look for a gear indicator in my car...
This is what it looks like - it's that white thingee on the end of the original Hurst shifter (you might not know this, but the '64 GTO was the first car to ever come from the factory with a Hurst shifter)...
I might be older than you, but I'm still active and enjoying life. I have a love of cars that was passed on to me by my father (who purchased that lovely 1949 Cadillac limo in 1958 when I was 4) when he was the sales manager for the local Olds/Caddy dealership.
Sometimes - being older gives you many personal experiences. I thank my dad for passing his love of cars onto me.
Some may think I'm a crotchety old fool, but in all honesty, I'm just trying to pass on information that it took me 50+ years to accumulate (I was car crazy before I was 10).

I for one have never looked at my dash to see what gear I am in, but I still would like that feature to be there. Why? Why not? It will tell you the gear in manual mode of an automatic transmission, why not for a manual?

Yeah..im trying to find time to get pics on my pics site.
I'm sorry I mentioned other brands.. they did have the cruze hatchback their but I forgot to take pics of that..had to follow my kid around and he like the fords because you could sit in them.

I do drive stick, and I never have the problem as to what gear I'm in because when I change gears automatically all I have to do is look at the speed I'm going and I know what gear I'm in. The only time I don't know what gear I'm in is when I'm high as ****. But then I don't really go driving around.
