Cold Air Intake with stock airbox

I am waiting for my Injen intake for the 1.8l, and Ive been wondering about how the warm air in the engine compartment will effect it.
I know that install leaves the lower airbox in place with the top opening pointed at the intake cone.
I am thinking about performing this same modification to bring more outside air to the cone under the hood. Would this be worthwhile? Its not going into a pressurized airbok or anything its just moving more air under the hood. Plus I shouldnt have to worry about siphoning issues since there isnt any suction, just the ram effect.

I believe it would be worth your while. I never got to measure IAT's before I did mine, but I know they were not 5 over ambient.

ok so sorry i dont have a camera to document with greater detail. but anyway i made an addition to the ram air setup here i think opens up alot of flow to the turbo.
First, i replaced the stock air filter with a k and n 33-2510, which was a perfect fit. next, using the following parts from spectre ( cheap, but can be found at most auto parts stores and seem of descent quality) i replaced the air duct going from the stock air box to the turbo inlet. it looks awesome! if anyone wants to see a picture send me a private message and ill text you a pic. the parts are as follows(all by spectre):
45* intake elbow(3 inch diameter)
90* elbow intake tube(3 inch diameter)
3 inch coupler kit
3 to 2.5 inch coupler kit
got a couple mpgs on the highway and a little more intake sound. oh, and it looks awesome.:banana:
sorry im not too computer savvy but feel free to message me with any questions. also it takes about 15 minutes, and could easily be redone before a trip to the dealership;-)
oh and forgot to mention: total cost of around 70 dollars. found filter on amazon for 33 dollars. elbows were 11 each, couplers 6 each

I had that same mod in mind to get rid of the accordion resonator coming out of the air box. Any issues with CEL's?

sorry im kind of new wing. by cels you mean the ecm throwing codes? if so then no. no check engine light been three days. and yes ive tested it pretty thoroughly

Hey guys first post! I gotta say I really like the creativity on this site, its great. Anyway I did this mod bout 700 miles ago. Removed the entire stock snorkel and ran a 3" tube from the air box to the fog light. I drilled holes in the small recesses/slots in the fog light cover to keep the stoc k look. And so far no cel and I drove thru a very heavy ran for about 30 mins (had to slow way down visibility dropped so much) and when I got back I checked the airfilter for water and the entire airbox was dry to the touch. Just thought id share some observations. On some things ppl have been concerned about.

This took about 40 mins and I accesed everything thru the wheel well. I used a drain spout/gutter extension from menards for the piping. Cost around 10. Had to cut out the the plastic trim underneath the light to get it to fit thru to the airbox and drilled holes in the stock fog light cover to get airflow
Atm its not solidly attached to anything its not nearly as innovative or thought out as the other setups u guys have posted but I figured id share my knowledge none the less

Ended up adding my own twist to this mod since I wanted to add a cold air source to my new injen intake. Ended up direct connecting it direct since anti syphon is not needed since I have an intake and not the stock air box. Also had to paint the end red to match the car, painted the sink strainer blk and flush mounted it. BIG difference across the board (mpg, hp, acceleration, etc). Used supplies from my local home depot.

Wow, that's gotta be some turbulent air!
Good on you for bringing it to cold-air status, it always makes turbo motors feel better.
Let us know if/when the bonuses deflate to to the car de-tuning itself to keep "a consistent user experience".
(God I hate that they did that!)

A simple battery pull will solve the problem each time it does. Not much of a hassle for me... not ready to commit on tuning my car...
