Compensation overcomes. The 3 hours of driving and loss in 401 is my biggest issue. I will schedule a meeting with the big bauce and see what can be done.

In my hall you can bump 401 to $15/hr when you are in a foreman position. The financial focal point of my career is to have a magical retirement.

I ain't tryna work til I'm 65. 58 and I'm out as long as I can accomplish my plan.

Right now we have to wear clean suits in the SHAP paint shop. They do not breath and when the paint ovens are running they are very warm. SLightly better than the Tyvec suits, but not much.

I'm at Applied Materials. They make tools for the semi-conductor companies to produce wafers. Fortunately it's an air-conditioned environment, except under the damn sub-flooring.:blankface:

With the optics we make we have to make them in a clean room, a skin flake can ruin a optic real quick. On top of that they have to machined at a specific temp.

Picking up an Acetylene 40cutft (B) tank tonight. Anything specific I should know so I don't blow the Sonic and my self up?

My understanding is to have the tank closed and secured in the upright position and to never tip it? I also read that if you must tip it to allow it to stand upright for 4+ hrs before using?

You'll be fine. Unless you lay it on its side for a long time, you don't need to wait 4+ hours. Just treat it with a reasonable amount of respect.

FML and FTW!!!

Started at a new job location for the company I'm working for today.

The FML part: it's a travel job in San Jose 393's jurisdiction. The pay is even better than what I make at my local (342, and if I told you how much it might anger you), but I won't be eligible to put as much into my 401 (currently $12/hr). Plus the commute sucks. 1 hour there, 2 hours traffic home. No bueno with race clutch in dead traffic.:blankface:

Also the job is 90% clean room work, meaning hair net, boot condoms, latex gloves and clean shave or beard net and lab coat. Very uncomfortable for such a laborious job.

The FTW part: they want to set me up as a foreman (10% extra pay), give me a company truck, and keep me there for years. And in my trade nothing is more valuable than job security.

I'm torn, because with plans for starting a family, I don't think me spending 3 extra hours driving a day is fair to my wife and future kids. Plus I'm taking an Instructor position at my hall on Monday nights. I'm never gonna be home.:sadbanana:

Sounds like a good opportunity. Have you considered moving?

Not really. We just bought our house 1.5 years ago, and my wife dislikes San Jose. Also, our parents are getting into their twilight years and we don't want to be too far away.

God, what a sh¡tty commute though. Only two days now and I already see it being a problem. The distance isn't worse than I've had in the past, but the traffic and quantity of freeway junctions is exhausting. Especially after a physical day. I get off at 3pm. When work gets seasonally crazy, I'll be working OT and staying later. Til 5pm........ Exponentially worse traffic.:blankface:

Sure, you've got to work. I also understand longevity and what it could potentially "say" if you don't want to stay.

I'm also a proponent of the idea that we were not put here to live our lives at work. I've how from a nursing position back into fast food because I negotiated my way into management and the hours and pay rate I wanted.

Sure it sucked saying I worked at McDonald's instead of nursing.. But I was the one at home every weekend and by 3pm every day, making more money than my nursing job.

IMO we are here to work.
However, find a job you love and never work a day in your life.

Unfortunately I am not currently at such a job. I have been though in the past....

I agree with Chris to a degree. If I suddenly came across enough money to never have to work again, I would self-destruct within a couple years. But I do also require doing something I love for work in order to live a healthy, happy life.

I don't want to dread coming to work. I think that I will take one for the local, at least for a year, and then see if I can leverage myself back closer to home. After all I am a Steamfitter for my Local before I am an employee of a company.

It is my brothers that I want to earn a reputation with. Then I can go wherever I choose with their blessing.
