It wouldn't have to be configured like that on a 1.8 though. It could be plumbed over the top to the opposite side to run the stock 1.8 intake mani.
Also, with fab skills it's probably just as simple to start from the ground up. I just think this option gives a central starting point to build outward from. WG is included, he has the IC already, all that is left is some piping and a BOV. With this option in hand a boosted 1.8 is less than a couple days away.

Hey its devilsonic89 made a new account i couldnt remember my old account info lol. I see that someone has taken up the project as well awesome!!!! i just picked up a K04 turbo that i will be using in my turbo build. 
I see we been trying to outsource a manifold.
And BNR made a flange so anymore progress since i been gone???

Possibly, some to alot of rewiring would need to be done. alot of the base tables would need to be rewritten and communication with other modules will likely be problematic (trans, anti-theft,etc). All that would have to be done before even basic tuning could begin.
Unless the 1.8 module is incapable of supporting a turbo it would not be worth the effort and additional cost.

Tuning has been one major hang up for really getting to work on a turbo build for my car. It seems as if my best option will end up being a full stand alone system. The only tuning option we have so far (for the E83 ECM in the 1.8 cars) is a little hit and miss right now.

1.4T is E78, 1.8L is E83 (2 variants exist, E83A and E83B, think it's a model year split).
You could probably swap in an E78 with a Sonic OS, you'd have to do the legwork and make sure GM didnt change anything else except from the fusebox <-> engine harness. Just unplug the E83x one and plug the E78 one in (assuming everything else is compatible).
But...with the right tuning software, there really isnt a reason to do this swap other than the E78 can control the factory turbo. For a straight, factory 1.4T swap, yes it would be important. But if you're fabbing a turbo kit, highly doubtful you'll use the/a factory replacement turbo off a 1.4T. All GM Gen IV+ ECMs do 2.5 Bar/255kPa with the stock OS, you just need to tune the MAF and VVE coefficients.

I like that I'm not the one with this idea steve. My biggest question that is stoping my project is how are you going to tune the car with what software. I emailed trifecta and bnr with no reply from either of the two which is a huge let down seeming i have all these parts which are usless maybe its because im in california. I don't know where to find a flash that is open source or know of any software that I could use.your car is going to be awesome maybe you can pm me and we can help one another out.keep up the good work!

Trifecta should be able to do it easily. It won't be very different than any other 1.8 tune if you use a mechanical boost controller. All they need to do is raise the power ceiling and tune for larger injectors. The MAF, MAP and o2 will tell the ECU will communicate the extra air flow from the new turbo and will supply fuel accordingly.
A couple datalog rounds will dial in the open loop WOT and you'll be the fastest 1.8 here.
