1.4 is Delphi78 the 1.8 is Delphi(xx). I don't remember, but they are different in that regard.
1.4T is E78, 1.8L is E83 (2 variants exist, E83A and E83B, think it's a model year split).
You could probably swap in an E78 with a Sonic OS, you'd have to do the legwork and make sure GM didnt change anything else except from the fusebox <-> engine harness. Just unplug the E83x one and plug the E78 one in (assuming everything else is compatible).
But...with the right tuning software, there really isnt a reason to do this swap other than the E78 can control the factory turbo. For a straight, factory 1.4T swap, yes it would be important. But if you're fabbing a turbo kit, highly doubtful you'll use the/a factory replacement turbo off a 1.4T. All GM Gen IV+ ECMs do 2.5 Bar/255kPa with the stock OS, you just need to tune the MAF and VVE coefficients.
