Supercharger option for 1.8

Since we are talkn about the turbokit...what about a supercharger kit for the 1.8??? Any ideas?? I will like to have an open discussion about this.

It would be fairly easy, but you'll need more hood clearance.

I could be mistaken, but I'm fairly certain you can put a blow off on a supercharged engine, although it's certainly not necessary.

Would a centrifugal need more hood clearance?

This would be a good time for Dave Michel to chime in given the DDM experience using both turbo and super chargers on small engines.

I'm a fan of blown 4cyl. I had a jrsc on my civic. Made right at 330 on 14lb rual king pulley.! Lol I enjoyed the piss out of that car.

I have not seen one or the like for the Sonic nor have I noticed any indication of one on the horizon.

But slower boost onset than a positive displacement supercharger and more power draw than a turbo...... Centrifugal turbos are literally the worst forced induction power makers......

Yea yea you'll never notice the power robbed, you'll also never drive the same car with a same scale fully optimized turbo or scroll supercharger to notice the difference. opcorn:

Worse on a scale but better than nothing and if staying below 8lbs of boost engine internals need not be upgraded. There are good reasons for going with a centrifugal supercharger otherwise why are so many using them?

Space available needs to be considered and as I posted I have seen no evidence that anyone is working on a raised cowl hood for the Sonic.

All forms of forced induction rob power but the idea is to get the most net in a cost effective manner and that includes working within the space available.

And remember, this is a thread about supercharging and not about which is better, supercharging or turbocharging.

Just what I thought... piss comes standard in a civic...

If I did a forced induction 1.8 I would go supercharged. Turbos are cool but the sudden snap of power might not be good with the super charger you have a constant stream of power through the rpm range

I think the waste gate on a turbo does just fine at stabilizing the power delivery.......

Proper size turbo and you dont have lag or sudden power hit at the wrong time.

If I were to go S/C it would have to be a positive displacement like an Eaton M45. Turbo would be more like a T22 or T25.
