Top Speed

I wanted to see if I could beat 140, which I've heard is the cap for a stock sonic, I did a couple runs back and forth across a stretch of interstate from one exit to the next to verify it was free of debris or les flic, waited for all cars to pass by so I'd have a nice clear run... but by the time I hit 125 there were taillights coming at me fast and I went with the better part of valor.

I need a closed track, trying to find my own is tricky.

I do love onramps though, I get to go from zero to a bit past local speed limit as fast as I possibly can, I can be completely sure there's nobody in my way, and it isn't even illegal (well the bit past part, but that's a law nobody, cops included, observes)

Good luck finding a track where you can hit top speed. At a local track I could only get to about 100 mph on the straight away. Would be fun to go faster though!

No? I'd have thought that would have been one of the points of a closed track, the ability for all those sports car owners to actually see what their cars can do... and Top Gear leads me to believe that most of what Amurican made sports cars can do is go fast in a straight line.

At 125 the Sonic is vibration free, stays straight and steady in lane or changes lanes easily, has no significant wind buffeting problems (caveat, this is with aftermarket rims and tires, ymmv), brakes great, but is also eager to give more, not at all close to running low on power (again, at 230hp according to UG, so ymmv with a closer to stock build) I can't say as to handling curves as I deliberately picked a nice clean straight run after exiting the onramp, and I wasn't going over 88 when I joined the highway proper... I know because I didn't shift into fourth until I was on the straightaway.

I'd love to see fifth and even sixth someday, although I suspect needing 6th is several more mods away.

I can drive that slow but it's hard to steer, and I can't get my car out of second gear.

The hardest part is finding a track with a long enough straight to hit top speed. Try finding an abandoned airstrip that's your best bet for top end.

You'll need atleast 2 to 3 mi of uniterupted WOT to find the top speed.. what's you start nearing the drag limit each mph. Takes what feels like an eternity.

Shouldn't even be shifting into 6th (or 5th for that matter) while going that slow, what are you some kinda hypermiler?

on a serious note you'll reach a better top speed in 5th than in 6th, Just the way the car is geared vs its power curve. If Swordsmith finds a long enough slab of pavement he may be able to get a bit more speed out of 6th but you're going to need allot of road really say you maxed it out.

I've topped 4th around 110. And still haven't found the top of 5th.

I just don't have that kind of space here with low visibility to the guys with blue lights. I am however planning on driving right though Utah on 80 in April, Tooele is only a few miles off that stretch IIRC.
