The dreaded clunk finally showed up at 27, 000 miles. Coincidentally, this was about a week after I installed the DDM rear brace. My girlfriend thought the noise was coming from the rear, and I wasn't quite sure, so of course I checked and re-torqued all of that nonsense. When that didn't fix it I ordered some moogs from rockauto ($33.24 for the pair shipped). Upon removing the driver's side link, the source of the clunk was apparent. The lower end was so loose that it would rattle in my hand.

Hey River Rat – I’m thinking of picking up the DDM Rear Brace in a few weeks when I travel to DDM.
I’m just wondering if a Dealership would then Void any future “free” replacement of suspension parts (i.e. the front links) saying the rear modification was a factor in a pre-mature failure of other items?
Then again, if you installed the Moog Front links you’re probably far better off and won’t need any GM (sub-par) links
Thoughts?

I had the same thing, and eventually every Sonic will as the factory links are plastic. I simply ordered the steel version from ZZP for $47 shipped(wasn't looking to dump $100 on the billet version) and brought it into the dealer and had them install them under a warranty repair. Can't beat free labor.

I could see GM putting up a stink about suspension if you had coilovers, but something as simple as a brace they shouldn't give you any grief - in fact they may not even see it unless you have a colored one.

My turn. 2013 hatchback 1.4 turbo 6 speed LTZ. The clunk has been getting progressively worse and I finally couldn't stand it any longer. I love the car and one of it's best features is it's handling and another is it's quietness, until recently. I'm just under the warranty cutoff at 35,400 miles.
They performed recall 13128 Software Enhancement Update to the MyLink radio and identified the clunk I took the car in for as the front swaybar links. They did not note a recall and they have to order the links. So, after two days I get the car back with a radio software update but otherwise not repaired. I get to have someone follow me to/from the dealer again and arrange alternative transportation to/from work again next week. Hurray.

I'll agree that if the brace were painted black then it would probably be overlooked, especially if the car were being looked at for a problem in the front. As to whether they would replace the links for free, well my 2¢ are worth the same as yours. I doubt it would be an issue, but you never know where a dealer will stand.
Something as relatively cheap and simple to replace as a stabilizer link is not something I would consider a deal breaker in any event.

I had the power seat bracket break on a Ford and it was way past when the warranty had ended, Ford replaced it for free. It cost iatblot more back then for what replacing tend end links cost now and GM would not. I guess they are real good at making parts last just past when the warranty ends. I have never had a GM product that did not have something break after it was too late.

A few months back, took my 2012 Sonic in, sway bars replace, that bill was $200.00, I called GM, I was a little upset , my car had 21,000 miles on it, they covered half the cost. Today 8/12/15 I take it back, because my key is getting stuck in the ignition, now the shift assembly needs to be replaced, miles on car 21, 800; cost $360.00. Dealership said they would call GM, if they don't get anywhere I will be calling. All my family buys are Chevys.

Well I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but that 40 star torx is crazy tight. Tried with the jack pushing up the A arm and without.

That would be covered by the bumper to bumper warranty: If you have more than 3/36, it would be your responsibility.

Has anyone had the replacement(s) fail? My dealership (the same dealership that repaired them under the TSB) told me "We already replaced them, and that's a one time deal so you will have to pay for them this time." Sorry, that doesn't sit well with me. If you replaced defective parts with defective parts, you should stand behind the parts and not make me pay.
I don't autocross, I don't beat on the car, I don't drive it for work purposes. It's a 2012 with 40,119 miles on it. There's nothing I've done to make these links fail, TWICE.
I am on the phone with Chevy Customer Care now. They are opening a case for me. I'll update as I get more info.

Thats crazy man that they're trying to make you pay for them. I just replaced mine with moogs and called it a day.

I have a 2015 LT that I picked up new a few weeks ago. I checked under the car and the end links appear to be the same plastic ones as I've seen in pics here on SOF. If these links have been a common problem since 2012, then I have to wonder why GM has not used better ones on later models. Then again, is it the fact that they're plastic which is the problem, or is it something to do with a material used at the connection points?
Good question Mortis, because it appears that the replacement ones are just as bad as the original ones. My original ones lasted two years, and now two years later here I am again with failed end links.
I came on here to post some good news though. As a result of my call to Chevy Customer Care, I just got a call from my service advisor and he told me that his boss told him to not only not charge me for the end links that need replaced, but also the ball joint that needs replaced! That's $569 that I now don't have to pay! Huge shout out to Kelley Chevrolet for doing the right thing in the end and taking care of a customer.
